David Weng, M.D., PhD

Dr. David E. Weng was born in Chicago, IL and grew up in Rochester, MI.   He attended Harvard College, where he majoring in biochemical sciences and graduated in 1984.  Dr. Weng graduated from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1992 with his MD and a PhD degree in genetics and biochemistry.  He continued for residency training at Johns Hopkins Hospital for internal medicine and subsequent internal medicine board certification in 1995.  Following completion of residency, Dr. Weng completed medical oncology fellowship training at the National Cancer Institute in 1998 and medical oncology board certification.

From 1998 to 2006, he was a member of the faculty of the Cleveland Clinic, and provided care to patients and their families for a wide range of cancer disorders, with a particular focus on breast cancer.  In addition to patient care, Dr. Weng was director for the hematology/oncology fellowship and responsible for training of the next generation of specialists.   Dr. Weng was also active in research, conducting a number of studies of new treatments and providing oversight of clinical research activities at the Cleveland Clinic at as vice-chairman of the Institutional Review Board.

In order to focus on the development of new treatments for cancer, Dr. Weng joined the pharmaceutical industry in 2006.  Most recently, he has been the Chief Medical Officer of TetraLogic Pharmaceuticals and providing oncology expertise for the development of new therapies for many kinds of hematologic and solid cancers.  During his time in the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Weng has continued to practice throughout Ohio and Maryland for the full range of needs of patients and their families.

Dr. Weng and his wife Christie live in Chevy Chase, MD with their 3 daughters and 2 sons.   When not chasing after their children, his other favorite hobby is running trails in local woods and parks.
